Home delivery of Organic Food - while supporting the ME Association

The ME Association (MEA) have found a new way of introducing themselves to people with ME - thanks to Swaddles Organic which run a home delivery service of organic foods.  Customers of Swaddles Organic will be receiving information from the MEA along with their deliveries of organic meat, ready-prepared meals, vegetarian options, fruit and vegetables.

Juanita Appleby, Marketing Manager of Swaddles Organic, said "Feedback indicated that a high percentage of our customers suffer from ME and associated ailments.  So the MEA looked like a natural partner to join in cause-related initiatives.  We will be providing information to our customers about the research and support offered by the MEA in their parcels of food along with a discount offered to existing members of the MEA.  It's all about raising awareness and helping sufferers in Britain."

Jocelyn Leslie is the founder and Managing Director of the company has many years experience within the commercial and marketing sectors.

Swaddles Organic supports HSBC/HFC Bank with World Environmental Day

This year’s World Environment Day was celebrated in style at HSBC and featured a range of initiatives designed to increase awareness of the impact of climate change and inform staff of easy ways to ‘go green’.

The Bank’s headquarters in Winkfield played host to the local Honda dealership, which brought in hybrid and diesel cars for staff to try out, and Swaddles Organic, an online organic shop that provided UK-sourced organic food in the staff restaurant for the day.

“We take World Environment Day seriously here,” said Peter May, Head of Strategic Analysis. “And this year was no exception – our stand in the restaurant area was extremely busy giving away green goodies, as well as Swaddles Organic food itself proving extremely popular, with approximately 90% of staff coming down to check out what was on offer.

“I must say a massive thank-you to you and Swaddles for your incredible support for our World Environment Day.  On the day we aimed to highlight to the staff the importance of going green and how easy it is to become lite green.  We aimed to take down the barriers to going green by showing the staff how easy it can be and your organic produce and delivery model demonstrates this perfectly....  We also moved the shop and restaurant onto 100% biodegradable packaging and had hybrid cars from Honda on show. All of this as giving away energy saving lamps from Phillips, water saving devices from Thames Water and range of green goodies from the Environment Agency and B&Q.”

Swaddles Organic donate excess to local soup kitchen

Swaddles Organic were delighted to find such a worthy cause in our area.  Northampton Hope Centre, formerly The Northampton Soup Kitchen, has been providing support for disadvantaged and homeless people in Northampton for over 30 years.  Swaddles donates its excess produce and other products to the Hope Centre to help those on the margins of our society.  They could not continue this work without the generosity of the public.  You can read more about Northampton Hope Centre on the Related Links page.

Swaddles Organic - Last of the Independents?

Swaddles Organic have taken the decision to align ourselves with Organic Farmers and Growers rather than the Soil Association due to the changes in the Soil Association's involvement in the major multiple retail sector.  Our ethos has always been to support the independent smallhold organic farmers and producers and Organic Farmers and Growers mirror this ethos.  Organic Farmers and Growers uphold strong organic principles, practices and quality of produce.  We look forward to our new partnership with Organic Farmers and Growers.

Pie's the limit after Royal connection

An organic range of pies, prepared and baked in Daventry, could be winging their way to the dining plates at Buckingham Palace thanks to one local company.

Royal Oak-based company Swaddles Organic, a brand of Onefood Organic Natural and Ethical, has been creating wholesome foods in the town for three years, but its range of classic chicken and steak and kidney pies are now being stocked by Fortnum and Mason's of London., the grocer to the Queen.

Neil Stansfield, chief executive of Swaddles Organic, said: "Fortnum and Mason searched for the finest British classic pie throughout the UK and after arduous searching they came upon Onefood and Swaddles, sampled the product and found it to be the best in the UK."

The range of products made at the company's Austin Way factory include soups, pies and organic meals all prepared by Swaddles Chef Mark Clatworthy.  The company also sells environmentally friendly fair-trade grocery and cleaning products, allowing people to buy ethical produce and help the environment.  Mr Stansfield added: "We are a small, family-run business impassioned by supplying natural, ethical and unadulterated food.

Swaddles Organic use no nitrates in curing process

Time honoured natural curing and smoking methods create hams of unique texture and flavour.  Swaddles Organic Bacon, Gammon and Ham have gained world recognition because of traditional curing methods using a recipe of sweet brine, flavoured with aromatic herbs and spices like juniper berries, garlic and bay leaves for a distinctive peppery taste.  Slowly grown, fed on organic rations and comfortable housed, Swaddles Organic traditional breeds of pork are prime cuts of organic meat.

“Swaddles Organic are raising awareness and advising consumers about the importance of not just organic benefits but the natural and ethical practices with food.  This move to solely provide nitrate/nitrite free ham and bacon products represents our commitment to providing food that does more than taste fantastic but also positively contributes to our health and environment.”, Neil Stansfield,Swaddles Organic

Nitrate/Nitrites are preservatives and colourants used most commonly during the process of curing pork.  The very high heat used to cook many of these types of processed meats, like bacon, assist in the formation of Nitrosamines.  Nitrosamines are carcinogenic, meaning studies indicate that people who eat a lot of processed meats with nitrates are at a much higher risk for pancreatic and other gastric cancers.
